Description
  • Back in 1960, three youngsters could only dream of playing and having fun together like normal siblings because two of them were born with cerebral palsy. Cerebral palsy is a condition that limits mobility and often confines a person to a wheelchair for life.

As they grew up, the lives of the two physically impaired children became increasingly more difficult. More and more barriers prevented them from interacting with their family and community, making it virtually impossible to get the exercise so vital to their good health.

The Schaeffer Foundation was inspired by this all-too-common situation. Today, the members of the Foundation, along with the members of the ShowMe Aquatic Center Board of Directors and Professional Advisory Panel, continue to work tirelessly to bring the dream of a barrier-free facility to reality. Now adults, the three siblings still dream of a time when they can have fun and play together. The ShowMe Aquatic Center will touch their lives and the lives of thousands who share similar stories.
