Aqua Fitness
Another very effective form of exercise is aqua therapy, which you can do yourself. Many exercises are possible in water that aren't on land. Exercise in water will flex, tone, and strengthen muscles with less effort because the water's buoyancy lessens gravity. Perhaps the only disadvantage is that it's harder to know how hard you're actually working! Flotation devices really help-they can allow one to stand upright and even pool-walk, depending on ability. It is easy to adapt any exercise to water because water's buoyancy is very liberating to one with limited mobility. For safety's sake, it may be necessary to spend a few sessions with a physical therapist who does aqua therapy, and take the information with you.
