Where can you find information on fitness and recreation programs for people with disabilities in Illinois? Recreation Access Illinois (RAI) started in July 2002 by the Office of the Illinois Attorney General in cooperation with the Illinois Association of Park Districts. RAI has been designed to respond to questions related to recreation opportunities for people with disabilities.
The National Center on Health, Physical Activity, and Disability Web site and hotline serves as the portal for locating accessible programs and facilities. RAI has also published and distributed an informational brochure and created a series of ads for social service agencies and other groups serving the community with disabilities. In coordination with the Illinois Association of Park Districts, RAI has sponsored a number of events and activities across the, including Access Chicago and celebrations of the ADA.
RAI can be accessed through its Web site (http://www.ncpad.org/671/2882/2003-01-01) and toll-free hotline (1-800-900-8086).
