"Exercise for Older Adults", produced by the American Council on Exercise, is a guidebook that can be used towards the planning and implementation of safe and effective exercise programs for older adults. This guide is designed primarily for use by professionals such as fitness instructors, health educators or facility managers, but may also be useful for consumers who wish to learn more about special considerations for older adults as they embark upon a fitness program. This book is comprised of seven chapters: Physiology of aging and exercise; Understanding and motivating older adults; Common health challenges faced by older adults; Pre-exercise screening and fitness assessment ; Older adult exercise techniques; Basic strength training guidelines for older adults; and Exercise programming and leadership. Photographs of older adults demonstrating the exercises are included throughout, as is an Appendix containing functional ability tests.
