Based in Memphis, TN, The Arc of the Mid-South is a non-profit United Way
agency dedicated to empowering people with disabilities to achieve their
full potential. We are committed to providing advocacy and services which
enable individuals with disabilities to realize their uniqueness, worth, and
full inclusion in society.
What started as a grassroots movement decades ago has blossomed into one of
the largest disability-rights advocacy organizations in Tennessee. In early
1950, a group of parents and other civic leaders organized to promote the
general welfare of citizens with disabilities. We were officially chartered by the Tennessee Secretary of State on November 2, 1950. Since then, we have pioneered and promoted programs that have great impact on individuals with disabilities.
With the financial support of our members and sponsors, we are able to
provide people with disabilities in the Mid-South with many important services, including advocacy, family services, and career development and job
placement. Our members also enjoy other benefits such as participation in the affairs of the local, state and national chapters of The Arc of the
Mid-South, discounted tickets to our annual Arc Benefit Gala, representation
in local, state and national policy forums, opportunities to contribute
their time and talent through volunteering, reduced cost at conventions, conferences and special training, and The Arc Appeal, our newspaper with up-to-date information on the organization and disabilities.
