Compacted crushed stone is a less expensive alternative for a reasonably low maintenance yet solid and well drained paving surface. Particles should be about 5/8 inch or smaller with fine bits left in the mix to fill the gaps between the larger pieces. Connecting pathways should be at least 36-40 inches wide and the edges should be flush with the surrounding grade to accommodate use of a wheelchair, scooter or crutches on the path, and there should be wider areas at places requiring a complete turning radius.
