  • Leisure gives us a sense of purpose for living for its own sake. (Dattilo, 2002)

  • Leisure allows for the development of skills not only for a particular activity, but also for those useful in other aspects of life.

  • Leisure facilitates independence and growth.

  • Leisure experiences develop a sense of competence because it provides individuals with freedom of choice.

  • Leisure allows for the discovery of who we truly are and what we can become free of others labels and stigmas.

  • Leisure experiences will positively influence one’s perception of himself or herself.

  • Leisure empowers one to clarify their values and determine what is worth doing.
