For teens with special needs, there are limited camping opportunities available. Anne Carlsen Center for Children is rooted in the belief that all people, regardless of disability, should have the chance to live life to its fullest.
Our summer camp, held at Elks Camp Grassick near Dawson, N.D. for one week each summer, supports and enhances the campers use of technology to allow them to participate fully in the camping experience.
Mixed in with functional learning activities are camp favorites including hayrides, swimming in the lake, pontoon rides, bonfires, and recreation activities. The week will end with a special student art show.
The camp is nestled on the sunny south shore of Lake Isabel, five miles south of Dawson, N.D. Lake Isabel is a sand bottom, spring-fed lake with a gently sloping floor and a large shallow area suitable for water games and swimming instruction. The grounds surrounding the lake cover acres of rolling hills, trees, flowers and shrubs. Trained and dedicated Camp Grassick counselors, along with skilled ACCC staff, provide assistance to meet campers needs.
