RISE Above is the City of Lakewood's therapeutic recreation program. We provide recreation and leisure programs for individuals with disabilities beginning with children age 6 up to adults. RISE Above offers year round programming including after school sports programs for youth and teens, social dances for adults, bowling league, outings into the community, Special Olympics athletic training, recreation and leisure classes, respite care, teen and youth outings, youth & adult quality of life enrichment, sign language classes, wheelchair sports programs and a summer day camp (Camp Paha). RISE Above staff is also available to help provide inclusion assistance & reasonable accommodations for individuals with disabilities in our regular City of Lakewood recreation programs. Individuals with disabilities are welcome to register for any recreation classes or programs. RISE Above, formerly Special Populations, has been the recipient of two national awards and numerous state and local awards for our "valuable contribution toward making the lives of persons with disabilities more rich." RISE Above believes that everyone, regardless of ability, deserves choices and options for health, leisure, recreation and wellness in order to provide an enhanced quality of life. To ensure that all individuals have equal access to activities that interest them and offer the opportunity to interact with peers and the community. RISE Above believes that it is imperative to provide a wide variety of programming encompassing recreational, educational and therapeutic services to individuals and groups with all types of disabilities.
