Discussion
The results from this study are particularly important and contribute to the ongoing controversy of exercise participation in people with ALS. While some contend that physical activity exacerbates the symptoms of ALS, exercise has been shown to reduce or slow the deterioration of health associated with the disease. Quality of life, as shown through perceived health status, musculoskeletal strength, functional capacity and muscle spasticity, has been determined to be maintained by participation in an exercise program.
