Conclusions
Low fitness in young adults is related to cardiovascular disease risk factors development, which may be altered by increasing fitness. Specifically, cardiorespiratory fitness in young adults is inversely associated with development of hypertension, diabetes, metabolic syndrome, and hypercholesterolemia in middle age. However, for those who are obese in childhood or adolescence, fitness does not protect against developing diabetes or metabolic syndrome.
