The first half of the book discusses the concepts of inclusion, which include chapters on definitions of inclusion within the classroom, assessment and planning, developing the curriculum, and creating a supportive environment, while the remainder of the book specifies the skills necessary, including basic motor skills, sport skills and teamwork, health and fitness, and recreation and life skills. It is very hands-on, replete with helpful checklists, evaluations/assessments, forms, etc.
The book ends with some helpful appendices including explaining disabilities in kid terms, a peer tutor training program (i.e., verbal cue/sign cue, modeling), disability awareness activities, a motor skills aquatics skills checklist, lists of organizations in adapted physical education and disability sport, equipment companies, additional resources (i.e., books, web sites, and publications), and lists of state directors of special education. It ends with a complete and current reference list, and a useful index.
