    The United Nations has declared 2005 to be the International Year of Sport and Physical Education. In celebration of the year, the IPC is publishing a guest ICSSPE Perspectives series entitled "The Multidisciplinary Series of Physical Education and Sport Science," (http://www.icsspe.org) and calls for academic and scientific institutions to submit articles on topics related to sport for people with disabilities and the Paralympic movement, with a focus on practical research implications. Submissions should follow a standard format of abstract, introduction, methodology, results, and discussion, and should also include practical implications.   11. Chair Yoga Certification Class: Chair Yoga Certification Class, Western MA, April 17-22, 2005

    In response to the growing need for chair-friendly yoga, senior Kripalu Yoga instructor Lakshmi Voelker-Binder will be offering her new Teaching Chair Yoga: The Sitting Mountain Series certification class April 17-22 at Kripalu Center for Yoga & Health in the Berkshires Mountains of western Massachusetts.

    The five-day certification program is ideal for yoga teachers, health care providers, and yoga practitioners, and is especially applicable to those working in senior centers, nursing homes, long-term care facilities, or corporate environments. Along with instruction in meditation, breathing, and relaxation techniques, participants will learn how to adapt classical yoga asanas to the chair. Certification will enable instructors to teach a one-hour Chair Yoga class with knowledge and confidence to a varied audience.   13. 2005 Physical Activity and Public Health Courses, Hilton Head, SC, September 13-21, 2005

    The PAPH course offerings feature an 8-day Postgraduate Course on Research Directions and Strategies and a 6-day Practitioner's Course on Community Interventions. The faculty for the courses is composed of nationally recognized experts in public health research and practice.

    The Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago seeks an athletic director, who would be responsible for managing the Virginia Wadsworth Wirtz Sports Program and the Helen M. Galvin Health and Fitness Center, including leadership and development of programs for participants with physical disabilities. Management responsibilities include budgeting, human resource management, policies and procedures, administrative systems, standards, as well as the most efficient and effective use of the department's human and financial resources in the achievement of department goals.

  21. Project Director Position Opening at the Association of University Centers on Disability

    The Association of University Centers on Disability (AUCD) is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Project Director. The candidate must provide leadership andinformation, and develop opportunities for the AUCD network of Centers and Programs to conduct research and education activities in the areas of disability and health in cooperation with CDC's National Center on Birth Defects and Developmental Disabilities (NCBDDD).   22. University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) Department of Disability and Human Development (DHD) Tenure-Track Faculty Position

    UIC's Department of Disability and Human Development seeks applications for a tenure-track faculty, assistant professor position. DHD is dedicated to the study of disability with the goal of advancement of disabled persons in society. Duties include developing an externally funded research program and teaching and supervising graduate students. The position requires a doctoral degree and evidence of commitment to disability in scholarship and teaching.

    The Accessibility Specialist will assist the National Center on Accessibility in meeting its nationally focused agenda in the areas of technical assistance, education, and research while promoting the inclusion of people with disabilities in parks, recreation and tourism. The Accessibility Specialist has primary responsibility for the provision of technical assistance to NCA customers on topics ranging from general accessibility requirements and subject specific issues related to recreation.   27. Publications and Scientific Affairs Manager

    The position of Publications and Scientific Affairs Manager at the International Council of Sport Science and Physical Education (ICSSPE) is available for two years from January 1, with the option to extend until December 31, 2008, and is based in Berlin, Germany.   30. Master of Science in Disability and Human Development

    The Master of Science in Disability and Human Development at the University of Illinois at Chicago is designed to prepare students for leadership positions in human services organizations, as well as to develop fundamental skills of research and scholarship in the disability field. The curriculum examines disability and human development across the life span with an emphasis on understanding the complex cultural, legal, programmatic, and theoretical context of disability in society. Study and research are available in two areas of specialization: disability studies and social policy and rehabilitation technology. The program articulates closely with the College of Applied Health Sciences' interdepartmental Ph.D. program in Disability Studies.
