NCHPAD Research Corner: Building Health Promotion Interventions for Persons with Disabilities and Chronic Conditions

Stuifbergen, A. K. (2006). Building health promotion interventions for persons with chronic disabling conditions. Family and Community Health. 29(15), 28S-34S.

The importance of targeting successful interventions for people with disabilities and chronic conditions is discussed, so that a validation process of adapting successful interventions can be standardized. Examples are provided regarding the use of the literature on developing self-efficacy for health behaviors. Overviews are also furnished on topics of health promotion versus disease management, and disease-specific versus disease-neutral interventions.
