The Paralympics

Every four years, the world comes together to watch the greatest athletes compete in the Olympic Games. In the same year and in the same city, the Paralympics are held to allow athletes with physical disabilities from all around the world to compete in a similar international multi-sport event. The 2010 Winter Paralympics Games, officially known as the X Paralympic Games, were held in Vancouver in British Columbia, Canada, March 12-21, 2010. Forty-four countries participated, an increase of five from the 2006 Paralympics in Turin, Italy.

Intro to Golf

This is part one of a three-part series on golf written by Gary Robb. This publication features photos and a video clip and focuses specifically on the prospective golfer with a disability who has little or no experience with the game. Gary was the former Associate Professor and Executive Director of the National Center on Accessibility (www.ncaonline.org) and the Bradford Woods Outdoor Center at Indiana University. He was involved in the US Access Board's development of Guidelines for Recreation facilities, including golf courses. He was instrumental in forming the National Alliance for Accessible Golf and was its first President. Gary has been involved in accessible golf for 20 years and was Co-Director of Project GAIN, a comprehensive and inclusive golf program for people with disabilities.
