The Paralympics is a relatively new sporting event, having made its first appearance in 1960. The Paralympics consists of both winter and summer events and was created with the idea of rehabilitation in mind. Dr. Ludwig Guttmann thought that injured and wounded soldiers during World War II would be able to enhance their physical abilities through sport. Today, the Paralympic Summer Games have proudly become the second-largest sporting event in the world.
