Disability Rehabilitation Research Program (DRRP) Visiting Project Coordinator

The Center on Health Promotion Research in the Department of Disability and Human Development at the University of Illinois at Chicago has a position opening for a visiting project coordinator. This candidate will be responsible for all administrative and clinical operations of an intervention study to examine the antecedents and consequences of obesity using the ICF framework that addresses both person and environment contextual factors that relate to obesity in adolescents with disabilities

The candidate must have a strong knowledge in disability and physical activity among youth as well as a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree (Master’s degree preferred) in an exercise and rehabilitative related field; 3 years experience in a rehabilitative/fitness setting; and 1 year administrative and managerial experience.

Chicago Park District Therapeutic Recreation Positions

Therapeutic Recreation Leader: Individuals who have one year of experience working with individuals with disabilities are eligible to apply. Candidates will provide assistance to staff in planning and conducting cultural and recreational activities, as well as sports leagues and tournaments for children and adults with disabilities.

Therapeutic Recreation Instructor: This position is open to individuals who have at least 20 credit hours in an accredited college or university in Therapeutic Recreation, Physical Education, Recreation, or a closely related field, plus one year experience in Therapeutic Recreation, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. An Associate of Arts degree in one of these fields is recommended, and a Bachelor of Arts degree is preferred.

The Therapeutic Recreation Instructor is responsible for planning and implementing a community recreation program for individuals with disabilities. The program includes cultural and recreational activities, sport skill development, as well as leagues and tournaments for individuals involved in Special Olympics and Paralympic competitions.

The National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research (NIDRR) Program Coordinator

The National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research (NIDRR) of the Office of Special Education Services (OSERS) within the U.S. Department of Education is recruiting a Program Coordinator for its RERC program. The Program Coordinator is responsible for a full range of professional duties that are required to enable NIDRR to establish priorities, administer, and manage NDIRR research in rehabilitation engineering and technology.

National Cancer Institute Physical Activity Researcher, Risk Factor Monitoring and Methods Branch, Applied Research Program

The National Cancer Institute (NCI), a major research component of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), is conducting a national search for a Physical Activity Researcher in the Risk Factor Monitoring and Methods Branch (RFMMB) within the Applied Research Program (ARP). The candidate will provide authoritative direction and leadership in planning, guiding, and encouraging a program of research to evaluate and improve the use of measures of physical activity and body weight status, applied surveillance research and epidemiologic research for assessing the relationship between physical activity, body weight status, and other relevant exposures and cancer. The candidate must be an experienced scientist (Ph.D. or equivalent-level training required) with leadership experience, excellent communication skills, and a strong record of peer-reviewed publications.

This position is a career position with the U.S. government and requires that the applicant is a citizen of the U.S. The salary range for this position will be negotiable but is anticipated to be at the level of GS 14. Qualifications include an earned doctorate in exercise physiology or a related field by the starting date. Candidates are expected to demonstrate the potential for sustained scholarship and the ability to support a research program through external funding. ACSM certification, postdoctoral research, and teaching experience are preferred qualifications.
