The guide, Bright Futures in Practice: Physical Activity, was created by the US Department of Health and Human Services Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), Maternal and Child Health Bureau, and the National Center for Education in Maternal and Child Health, Georgetown University.
The Bright Futures mission is "to promote and improve the health, education, and well-being of infants, children, adolescents, families, and communities."
Part II discusses specific issues and concerns related to physical activity, i.e., specific disabilities (cardiac disorders, cerebral palsy, cystic fibrosis, Down syndrome, seizure disorder, and spina bifida), and other issues, i.e., diabetes, eating disorders, and obesity. Topics covered include benefits and risks of physical activity for children and adolescents with special health care needs, screening and assessment guidelines, and counseling strategies.
