The American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) has produced a 3rd edition of ACSM's Health-Related Physical Fitness Assessment Manual. This manual assists fitness professionals in assessing their clients' health status to determine whether they need to see a physician prior to exercising and helps professionals design the appropriate exercise prescription based on their clients' health status levels. The manual contains 50 assessments for all 5 health-related components of physical fitness: cardiorespiratory fitness, body composition, muscular strength, muscular endurance, and flexibility.

New features of the manual include guidance on physical activity assessments, recommendations on medication usage, and cautions on common measurement errors.
