What is a serving size?

ChooseMyPlate.gov is an interactive website that provides information and tools for people to put into practice the Dietary Guidelines for Americans. The website uses the new MyPlate icon (pictured below) which has replaced the old Food Guide Pyramid. The new icon was designed to help Americans build a healthy plate at each meal and emphasizes the five food groups: diary, protein, vegetables, fruits, and grains. ChooseMyPlate.gov also provides personalized food plans that recommend specific serving sizes for each food group. Learn ways to easily determine what a correct serving size is using everyday items to help you consume a balanced diet.
