About the Author

Sunny Roller, M.A. is Program Manager, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, University of Michigan Health System, Ann Arbor, Michigan.

The author would like to recognize and thank Els Nieuwenhuijsen-Eldersveld, Rosalie Meyer, Eva Harris, and Werner Rink, M.D., for their support in writing this article. The NCPAD-sponsored tour of the Roosevelt Institute was made possible through the gracious hospitality of Anne Gawne, M.D., Director of the Post-Polio Clinic at Warm Springs. Regretfully, Dr. Gawne passed away on December 15, 2002, 10 weeks after our visit. Heartfelt condolences are sent to Dr. Gawne's friends and family members at her untimely passing.
