NCHPAD - Building Healthy Inclusive Communities

Font Size:

From the Information Specialist's Desk

Celebrate a healthy Father's Day and Men's Health Week, June 9-15, with NCPAD! Consult NCPAD's numerous fact sheets on disabling conditions, as well as adapted sports and recreation. A disabling condition should not prevent you from engaging in your favorite sports, such as golf (http://www.ncpad.org/212/1396/Golf) or tennis (http://www.ncpad.org/37/291/Wheelchair~Tennis). Remember to take full advantage of other recreational activities with friends and family, such as hiking and backpacking (http://www.ncpad.org/66/489/Camping~~Backpacking~~and~Hiking).

NEW AT THE NCHPAD WEB SITE:

  1. NCHPAD Minute Video: NCHPAD has begun a series of "minute videos," short video clips to jump-start your exercise program or "freshen" it up. Click on http://www.ncpad.org/content/61/Video to view the initial clip on avoiding pressure ulcers for wheelchair users. These clips are also great to use for instructional purposes.
  2. Check out two new slide shows:"Addressing the Physical Activity Needs of Children and Adults with Developmental Disabilities" and "Modifying Exercise Programs for Specific Subgroups of Older Adults and Persons with Disabilities".

FREE NCHPAD T-SHIRT!

Do you know of a disability-friendly exercise, sports, or recreation program in your community? Do you operate or work out in an accessible facility that you would like to have listed in our programs database? If so, complete our 7-minute survey, and we'll send you a free NCHPAD T-shirt! To obtain a copy of the survey, contact Cheeri Ong at cheeri@uic.edu. NCHPAD will add your responses to our online searchable database and send you a beautiful NCHPAD T-shirt!
