From the Information Specialist's Desk

This is a new column from NCPAD's Information Specialists, who are at the forefront of the center's operations.

  1. NBC5 Health and Fitness Expo: NCHPAD participated in the NBC5 Health and Fitness Expo, held January 25-26 at Navy Pier in Chicago. NCHPAD staff shared information on health promotion and exercise, responded to consumer requests for resources on physical activity and disability, signed up subscribers for NCPAD's monthly e-mail newsletter, and showcased highlights of the NCHPAD Web site on a notebook computer. Additionally, NCHPAD demonstrated an upper-body strengthening program using Therabands® on the Expo stage.
  2. Fitness Videos: NCHPAD is in the process of reviewing available information on videos for persons with disabilities. If you know of any good videos, please send the titles to Information Specialist Sheila Swann-Guerrero at swanngue@uic.edu, and we'll send you a free NCHPAD pen.
  3. Resources for Children: As NCHPAD continues to expand its Web site to include more fitness and recreation information for children with disabilities, we welcome your recommendations on programs, organizations, or facilities in your area that promote physical activity and recreation for children of ALL abilities. Please contact Cheeri Ong, Information Specialist at cheeri@uic.edu with your suggestions.
