Public Health Conference Support Program

The purpose of conference support funding is to provide partial support for specific non-Federal conferences in the areas of health promotion and disease prevention information and education programs, and applied research. Letter of intent (LOI) and application deadline dates for cycles in FY, 2007, 2008, and 2009 will be available through http://www.grants.gov each year.

Healthy Behaviors in Women

The goal of this grant program (HRSA 06-063), sponsored by the Health Resources and Services Administration, is to promote a wide range of lifestyle changes, involving exercise, nutrition, and overall attitude. Proposals should include women from ethnic groups and minority populations who disproportionately are affected by overweight/obesity. Projects should help improve existing links to preventive and other health services. As the announcement does not emphasize targeting persons with disabilities, it is recommended that potential applicants call the number below to determine if this is an appropriate target group.

Career Development in Implementation Research in Prevention, Outcomes, and Quality of Care

The Request for Applications (RFA) helps investigators develop capabilities and projects that lead to sustainable applications of research in primary and secondary prevention, outcomes, and improved quality of care in cardiovascular disease and stroke. Areas that would be considered within the scope of this initiative are research to improve primary and secondary prevention including reducing barriers, applications in primary care, prevention in patients with known coronary heart disease and stroke, and community interventions. Proposals that involve accessing existing data as those data lead to implementation applications, studies of health disparities, and studies of minorities, women, the elderly, and the young are encouraged.

Pre-proposals are encouraged and are due December 9, 2005 at 5 p.m. The deadline for general applications is February 15, 2006 at 5 p.m.

American Diabetes Association Clinical Research Award

Awards support investigators whose studies directly involve persons with diabetes applications in health delivery, outcomes, behavioral, and psychosocial research are appropriate for this category and are especially encouraged. Deadline dates are January 15 for July 1 funding and July 15 for January 1 funding.

The Midwest Roybal Center for Health Promotion Pilot Grant Competition

The Midwest Roybal Center for Health Promotion, funded by the National Institute on Aging, NIH, is holding a Pilot Grant Competition for all college or university academics, doctoral candidates, researchers, or practitioners in the field of aging and service providers studying health promotion in aging populations. The application deadline is December 3, 2005.
