Call for Research Session Proposals, 2010 Developing Amazing Leaders Conference, April 30 - May 2, 2010, Colorado Springs, CO

Deadline: January 15, 2010

This 3rd Annual Conference is seeking quality proposals which meet the conference goals and objectives. The primary goal of the conference is to provide "key" Paralympic audiences including community leaders, military personnel, sport and recreation program specialists, coaches, therapists, researchers, educators, college students, and other interested parties from across the USA, the tools and the inspiration to implement and support successful Paralympic sport programs in their communities.

National Center on Accessibility (NCA) Training Course: Retrofitting for Accessibility, Lake Mead, Nevada, January 26-29, 2010

This NCA training course focuses on the application of the accessibility standards and proposed guidelines to the built environment and outdoor developed areas. The course is designed for planning, construction, and maintenance professionals responsible for making existing facilities accessible to people with disabilities. Curriculum emphasis will include application of the ADA-ABA accessibility standards, an introduction to the draft final accessibility guidelines for outdoor developed areas, barrier removal, safety issues associated with accessibility, and ongoing facility maintenance to assure optimum access for visitors, including those with disabilities.

Research Experience for Undergraduates Programs in Quality of Life Technology (QoLT ERC) and Rehabilitation Engineering (ASPIRE)

Pitt and Carnegie Mellon are recruiting for their 2010 Research Experience. This particular research focuses on assistive technology and devices designed to benefit individuals with disabilities. This research field attracts students of many different academic backgrounds such as engineering, computer science, rehabilitation science, and other physical sciences. Most importantly, Pitt and Carnegie Mellon offer a comfortable, inclusive environment for students with disabilities.

Free Ambulatory Running Clinic, McCormick Place, Chicago, IL, December 27, 2009

Please join a free ambulatory running clinic at Mayor Daley's Holiday Sports Festival on Sunday, December 27, 2009, at McCormick Place from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

This clinic has been adapted to accommodate individuals with the following impairments and conditions but people of all ages and abilities are welcome:

  • Visually Impaired and Blind (guide runners provided)
  • Amputees
  • Cerebral Palsy
  • Dwarfism
  • Stroke/TBI

Call for Hosts, Inclusive Playgrounds Awareness Event, Inclusive Fitness Coalition (IFC)

The IFC is calling for advocates, community groups, families, and other related organizations to host awareness events focusing on inclusion at various playgrounds across the world. Plan an event in your community and help spread the word and educate others who may not be aware of the benefits of inclusive design and play. Inform the IFC of your plans and let it help disseminate this information. Participating playgrounds/groups will be submitted for possible inclusion in a series of articles for national magazines, in addition to the IFC website and newsletter.
